Degradable PE bread wrappers
Dec 21, 2004
Each year, 1.67 billions bread bags
are produced in the UK and generate more than 10 tones of waste. The
Co-operative Group (Co-op) is the first UK supermarket chain to adopt
degradable bags for its sliced bread range. The bags are produced
from a modified polyethylene (PE) film which is extruded, printed
and then converted into bags. It is an additive which allows to make
the film degradable; in fact the bags fully degrade after 4 years
into water, carbon dioxide and a small amount of organic residue.
